This is a totally free workout package, for over 50s new and returning to exercise. It’s specifically and age appropriately designed to get people moving again, in a safe way, to help prevent injuries and to slowly prepare and improve our bodies so that we can undertake more challenging physical tasks and exercise, or simply to help you perform activities of daily living more easily and for longer.

Unfortunately, we do have to take is easy when returning to exercise when we’re older due to having lower tissue tolerance, weaker connective tissue, our technique may not be as good as it used to be, weaker bones and joints and poor core strength. The great news is that all of this can be reversed and the main reason for the decline in these areas is because we’ve stopped using them. We’ve stopped testing them and stopped them from strengthening and improving. It really is a case of use it or lose it. If you don’t use it, you’re body starts declining, gets weaker and that’s when we really start ageing.  A bit of exercise and strength training will help in all of these areas.

 

There is no equipment required on this plan. All of the exercises are bodyweight based and can be performed in the comfort of your own home. Should you find any of the exercises too hard or too easy, the plan includes videos on how to scale the exercises to either regress or progress each one, which can then change it from a 4-week plan to a 6 week, 8 week or for however long you want to use it.

There are 3 different workouts/circuits within the plan that you'll complete either 2 or 3 times depending on which week you're on. The frequency and intensity of the workouts will increase as the weeks progress. Each of the workouts/circuits comprise of a warm-up through some dynamic stretches, a main circuit of exercises followed by some cool-down static stretches. The workouts, including exercise video demonstrations, can be followed and completed via our App which is accessible from your smartphone or tablet. The same software is available via desktop PC, where you can simply print out the workouts if you prefer. Some example exercises can be seen on our channel on YouTube and more challenging exercises, showing what 'us oldies' can achieve, are on our Instagram.

 

I’ve made this plan free of charge for two reasons:

I’ve seen, first hand, the benefits of having a more active lifestyle can bring. I was overweight, slow and in pain. I’m now the fittest and healthiest that I’ve ever been. I rarely get ill and have loads of energy. I really want to help others feel this way too.

 

Secondly, I will not take any 1-2-1 or online personal training clients who have not been active for some time. I would be getting them to do exercise such as on this plan during their first month to get their bodies used to exercising again.It would be unfair to pay personal trainer prices just to get you moving again. All you need is a plan such as this and some guidance. If during the plan it makes you want to do more exercise, then I’m glad I’ve helped to make you think that way.
